Street (Dieppe)

One mid afternoon, we decided to go check out some activities in my city. I decided to bring my camera even though I was skeptical I would get anything at this time of the day. I was wrong :P

There was this giant chest game which I though would be perfect for a black and white shot. The fact the sun was high and harsh made dramatic contrast which I like a lot. Also, nowadays, our cameras dynamic range and post process abilities are so good that really it doesn't matter as much as before.

Look at the different with the original shot and the post processed one. I could get a lot of details back from the black peons without creating much noise. This is also considering I had to shoot at ISO 100 which, for my camera, lowers the dynamic range a bit.

This was shot with my Fujifilm X-T20 + Fujinon 27mm F/2.8. This is out of camera raw with Lightroom presets (Adobe Monochrome):

I increased the contrast to make it more dramatic and clarity. I used the brush tool over the top black part of the image to lift the shadows. There were some spots that were distracting so I removed those as well.

My wife and son were playing chest and I started wondering around and that's how I discovered this lovely painted container bin. I was lucky, the sun was hitting it directly thus not creating any shadows. I was having difficulty with the composition because of that painted door. I tried being closer so you don't see any sky but it wasn't as interesting.

This shot was with my Fujifilm X-T20 + Fujinon 27mm F/2.8. This is out of camera raw with Lightroom presets (Adobe Color) + Vertical Perspective:

I had to transform the Vertical Perspective because I was a little low which made the container lines kinda outward. Again, simple edit with this one. Very small contrast boost, some clarity and a gradient filter to brighten the sky.

So shooting in midday is really not all that bad.
