Trees Silhouette Sunset

One evening after coming home from work, I was looking outside and the sky was amazing. When I looked down the street, I saw this cool composition. So I grabbed my camera and ran down the streets.

The more I walked, the less orange I was seeing. That's because the street is going downhill a little bit and my house sits higher. The sky was still very nice. I wished I had a longer lens for this as the 50mm was short. I cropped this image twice. The first crop was a 4x5 to simply remove some black area from the bottom. Then I felt it was too wide, so I did a 2x3 crop to narrow it back which is the original ratio.

This was shot with my Fujifilm X-T20 + Rokinon 50mm 1.2. This is out of camera raw with Lightroom presets (Adobe Color):

I played a bit with the whitebalance and HSL to get a more purple sky. I decrease the highlights to get more color in the sky. It was really easy to go overboard with the colors. I made sure to blacken out everything below the trees. I bumped the clarity all the way up because I didn't focus dead on the trees as I should have. Finally, I used Gimp to remove the power lines.

Sometimes you have to trust your gut and go out there and try. I like to prepare in advance but you don't always have that luxury. I didn't have that much time and who knows, maybe tomorrow there would be clouds which would make the image interesting but not as clean.
