I forgot to remove the screen on my patio door so one day I cleaned a path to removed it. This created kind of like a valley and one morning, while making coffee, I saw the shadows from the railing curving on the snow. So I went back outside and made the "valley" more uniform and smoother. I knew it would be snowing soon as well so I would have a nice smooth valley for the next weekend.
This was very hard and there were many variables I couldn't control like the quality of the snow and the clouds. I could only try this on the weekends because it was later in the morning (8:48am on Feb 17th).
So here's the setup:
I tried it 5 times overall but this is try #3. I didn't want to pick #3 because of 2 things. My X-T20 and the tripod reflection. My X-T20 has a scratch on the sensor glass and it shows it this picture. I later learned you need to cover the tripod legs with something black like a jacket because you'll see the reflection in the glass. I went with #3 because of the quality of the snow, it's so soft. I'm my later tries, the snow was much more crystallized because of the change in temperature.
So here are some tips: Cover your tripod legs and make your room as dark as possible. You also want to try it many times and change things that didn't work out from last time.
This was shot with my Fujifilm X-T20 + Rokinon 50mm 1.2. This is out of camera raw with Lightroom presets (Adobe Color):
So as you can see, there's a line from the sensor scratch and the tripod reflection. Another thing I did after this trial was to add snow in the top right corner. That's why I should've tried more angles from my previous tries. I tried my best to remove those distractions with Gimp.
I bumped the contrast, highlights, and clarity quite a bit and decrease the blacks. In the HSL, I lowered the blues saturation and a bit of luminance.
