My guitar head had a very nice wood design and pattern. So one day I decided to
take some shots. I tried many but these 2 were the best.
This is a little bit macro. I say a little bit because the only rings added
are the camera mount and the lens mount. Getting the angle I wanted, was a bit
tricky. A ball head would've been better here.
I have the guitar flat with a diffused flash coming from the top left. My goal is the details of the strings, tuning pegs, and wood grain but also some depth. I think having an angle makes it more interesting than just straight on.
At first, I started with colors but the background wasn't great so I decided to go black and white. I knew I would have another shot in color anyway. Also, with black and white, I feel you can increase the clarity a bit more.
I say "setup" because this isn't the actual setup picture. This was taken the previous day. But after analyzing them on the computer, the gold reflector made the tuning pegs on the left a different color than the ones on the right. It was unfortunate because it made such a nice color on the wood. Ah and also, the pegs were not aligned.
For the colors, I applied some split toning, and a mask on the head with the temperature increased. I also have a mask on the background with increased temperature. The reason why I did that instead of just increasing the overall temperature is to have more control.
So here's my "macro" setup:

This was shot with my Fujifilm X-T3 + Rokinon 50mm 1.2 + Macro tube
(minimum). This is out of camera raw with Lightroom presets (Adobe

I knew I wanted a straight-on shot to display the colors of the guitar head.
I tried different things with the flash but this was the best. Here's the

In the real shot, I used the silver side but everything was the same. I
chose this location for 2 reasons. 1. the light from the patio doors coming
from the right. That's why I could use the reflector to match the left side.
2. The background. I wanted a similar colored background but blurry. I shot
with different apertures but higher than 2.8 would not create that creamy
background and lower would be too shallow.

Retaking a shot you're almost satisfied with is hard and annoying but I'm
really glad I did. Being more attentive to details would help avoid this.
