Breakfast

After I did my coffee shot, I was inspired to do another similar shot. I try to take care of what I eat and breakfast is important to me so I decided to try that.

My breakfast consists of oatmeal, plain greek yogurt, and an apple. It has good carbs + high in protein.

I tried many scenarios and location but in the end, I ended up with this setup:

I really wanted to create fake sunlight with my flash and I think I did alright but it was tricky. First of all, the flash power is too strong even on 1/128th. By placing the plastic diffuser, I could shoot at a stronger setting. I also placed some gels to have a warmer light. Finally, sunlight usually comes in a stream because of a window so I placed some cereal boxes to channel the light to my scene.

I set up the camera in an angle so it's crossing the light. So you have the flash at 45 degrees and the camera at 45 degrees.

This was shot with my Fujifilm X-T3 + Rokinon 50mm 1.2. This is out of camera raw with Lightroom presets (Camera CLASSIC CHROME):

I increased the clarity overall and decreased the vibrancy just a little bit. I played with the tone curve to lift the blacks and shadows. There's a couple of local adjustments for the apples and the bottom shadow. To give the light even more warmth, I added a little bit of spit toning.

50mm 1/30s F/2.8 ISO 160

I like taking my time. Finding a composition took me a couple of days. I tried with the 27mm but it includes too much unnecessary space. If I get frustrated or bored trying to figure it out, I stop and try again later or the next day. Unless you're working for someone, there's no need to rush things.

This is another shot that not fully including another element is great. The apple is the main subject, there's no need to fully include the yogurt. I sometimes try to have everything in the frame in this case the apple/cutting board and my yogurt but there's no need and it's distracting.
