I invited my buddy over and my original idea was composing a shot with the leaves and create a stream of light with the flash. It didn't work out like expected. It's why you see 2 plants. One is for the background blur.
So when I was playing around in post, I tried black and white for fun and I thought it looked good. So here's the setup:
I used a telephoto lens to have a really narrow field of view so I can isolate a part of the plant. You can see the flash with the gels as the initial intention was to have a warm light. This setup picture was taken the next day in daylight, we took the shot the night before. In daylight, you might need to increase the shutter speed a bit to cut out some of the daylight.
This shot was with my Fujifilm X-T3 + Fujinon XF55-200mm. This is out of
camera raw with Lightroom presets (Adobe Monochrome):
I placed a big radial filter to darken everything around the leaf with the
strongest highlights. Contrast is bumped by a lot. I also brushed the main
leaves to increase clarity and texture. I also went into photoshop to edit out
some distractions.

It's funny how I felt it was such a flop that I didn't take a setup picture
but after converting to black and white, I really like it. I guess don't give
up until you've exhausted all possibilities.
