Winter Storm Tree

First picture of 2021! Also, the first snowstorm of the year and I was glad to go out. There's a golf course within a 10min walk from my house and that's where I went. I shot a couple of trees but when I saw this one, I knew it would be good.

This shot was with my Fujifilm X-T3 + Fujinon XF55-200mm. This is out of camera raw with Lightroom presets (Adobe Color):

They're right when they say expose to the right especially shooting in winter. Even though the exposure is the same in the before and after, I drastically increased the highlights and the whites. I increased clarity and texture on the tree and decreased them around the tree. There's a slight blue color to the highlights. I think it's also the first time I decrease the vignette. Personally, vignetting on snow doesn't look good.

My camera is weather-sealed but not my lenses. So I placed a rag on it while shooting. If it gets wet, don't worry too much. Dry it off before coming in the house and leave the camera in the bag for about 2 hours before opening it to prevent condensation. I think for a stormy situation like this, a plastic bag over the lens and camera would be better.

I was really excited to walk around and exploring when the conditions are harsh. When you see examples online, you're eager to try for yourself. It's really rewarding when you find something that resembles your idea. It's a great start to 2021.
