Foggy Winter Tree

One morning I woke up with a headache. I tried to sleep in but it didn't work. So I went up and prepared my breakfast. Only halfway through preparing my coffee that I noticed there was fog outside. With my headache and precious coffee almost ready, I didn't really feel like going. Plus, it was already close to 8h and I had a virtual meeting at 9h. Since it was already near 8h, I figured the fog is lifting and it will be gone by the time I would find something anyway.

But then I thought of a potential subject that isn't that far away. After some self debating, I went. I didn't care about my coffee or my headache. I didn't want to regret not going because these kinds of conditions are a bit rare.

This shot was with my Fujifilm X-T3 + Fujinon XF55-200mm. This is out of camera raw with Lightroom presets (Adobe Color):

This is a 4x5 crop and I'm a big fan of this ratio especially shooting in portrait orientation. I change the tones to more of a cooler and blueish tone. There are a couple of local adjustments on the tree to try to bring out as much detail as possible. I shot at F/5.6 to have as much separation as possible but I could've tried a shot at F/8 as well. As with most winter shots, I brought the whites up and some minor adjustments with contrast and shadows. The biggest challenge was not going overboard with the color grading.

When I went to the golf course, I went through the woods and there was a lot of fog. When I was finished and came back through the woods, there was no more fog. This is in the span of 15 minutes. I much prefer planning my shots and outgoings but sometimes you don't have much choice.
