I had this location in my for a while since I've shot around there before.
This was just on the other side of the lake facing the opposite way. I still
made sure with suncalc.org where the sun
would be pointing and at what time I would need to be there.
The day before was snowing and the forecast was showing clear skies the next
morning. Snow doesn't stay on the trees very long so I took a couple of hours
off the next day. A great thing about winter sunrise is it's very late. This
shot was taken at 8am.
It was super cold (-20 Celsius) and with the wind, even colder. But this meant
the snow wouldn't melt on the trees. When I walked through the forest to get
to the golf course, it looked so magical with all the snow on the trees.
This shot was with my Fujifilm X-T3 + Fujinon 27mm F/2.8. This is out of
camera raw with Lightroom presets (Adobe Color):
My original shots are always adjusted with white balance and exposure but this
was 0.75 underexposed. As for global adjustments, I increased texture a bit and
clarity a bit more. I also like to lift the blacks with the tone curve but only
by 8 points. For the HSL, I increased the saturation of orange and yellow and
decrease the blue just a bit. This is something I would like to see, local
adjustments with the HSL option. I did a bit of color grading but it's very
minor. Blue in the shadows and orange in the highlights but I increased the
luminance in the highlights.
For local adjustments, I have 3 gradient filters, 1 radial filter, and 1 brush
adjustment. My goal is to enhance the nice sunlight. The foreground was
missing a bit so the gradient filter there increased the highlights, contrast
and lifted the shadows. I wanted to make the light brighter without making the
foreground brighter. I have another gradient filter for the sky just to
decrease the highlights. I also have one in an angle on the lower-left corner
to decrease the highlights. This was to compliment my radial filter on the
right side of the image which had a decrease in dehaze to create flair.
Finally, the brush was localized on the trees to increase the whites and
really make the snow pop.

There's a lot of work on this image but if you don't enlarge it, it's hard to
tell which one is edited. Once you look at them enlarged one after the other,
you can really see the difference and I'm very happy with the results. The
cold weather was worth it.
